Vinita’s 3rd Annual Punkin Chunkin Festival Set for October 28th
The public is invited to watch teams launch pumpkins through the air during the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce’s 3rd Annual Punkin Chunkin. The event is scheduled for 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 28th at John’s Tractor Works, located 444934 US Hwy 60/66, three miles east of Vinita. General admission is $5.00, children four and under are free.
The challenge is to create and design a catapult or trebuchet that will propel a pumpkin either the farthest or closest to a target. The event is a great opportunity for kids of all ages to build something with their hands and engage in some friendly competition. A local favorite, Colossal Thunder, won the Youth Trebuchet with a World Record chunk of 2,402 feet in 2013. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
The Punkin Chunkin is more than a high-flying competition. It’s a fun-filled festival including food trucks, arts and crafts, games, and activities for the entire family. Over a dozen chili teams have entered the cook-off. Starting at 11:00 am, spectators can taste them all for $5.00. Free activities for the kids include pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, face painting, mini Punkin Chunkin, archery, and more. Dress up your little ghouls and goblins for the kid’s costume contest at 1:00 pm.
