Vinita
is home to several buildings on the National Register
of Historic Landmarks, including the Hotel Vinita.
Our quaint downtown business district is chock full
of structures reminiscent of its Victorian history.
Vinita’s residential areas also serve as a showplace
for many beautiful early and pre-statehood homes. A
map and brief description of each home is available
at the Eastern Trails Museum.
Although
Vinita was not incorporated until 1871, a great
number of people settled in the area before then.
Cabin Creek, not far from Vinita, was the site of
a huge Civil War battle. In 1864, Confederate forces
captured over 100 wagons, 720 mules and other goods
valued at $1,500,000. The Battle of Cabin Creek
is re-enacted every three years. The next highly
anticipated re-enactment will be held in the fall
of 2004. Until then you can visit the battle site.
Our
historic movie theatre located in the downtown business
district has been completely renovated. The
Center 3 Theatre, which was constructed in
the 1920’s, is one of the earliest theatres to
be built in the state. The theatre offers residents
and visitors first run movies.

Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees is a short drive from
Vinita. The beautiful lake was created in 1940 with
the completion of the Pensacola Dam on the Grand River.

world.
The
World’s Largest McDonalds is
located on the Will Rogers Turnpike (I-44) near
the Vinita exit and is easily accessible from the City
of Vinita; there is no need to enter on to the turnpike.
This monstrous structure, spans over a four-lane highway
