Battle of Cabin Creek

Experience History
Although Vinita was not incorporated until 1871, there were a great number of settlers in the area before then. Not far from Vinita, Cabin Creek was the site of a huge Civil War battle. In 1864, Confederate forces captured over 100 wagons, about 720 mules and other goods valued at $1,500,000. The Battle of Cabin Creek is re-enacted every three years. The next highly anticipated re-enactment will be held in September of 2012. Until then, you can visit the battle site, which is open daily.
